Tecno Pop 7 surfaces, it will open below Pop 7 Pro

Tecno quietly released the Pop 7 Pro early February, but there was no vanilla model out there at the time. This will come soon as soon as it appears on Google Play Console. Well, this has actually been in the works for a while since it appeared on Geekbench in October and FCC certification in December.

GPC reveals that the phone has a 720 x 1,600 pixel (20:9) screen, and while the size isn’t explicitly listed, it should be in the same ballpark as the 6.56-inch HD+ IPS LCD on the Pro model (the vanilla phone measures 164 x 74 x 8 mm per FCC, roughly the same dimensions as the Pro).

The Pop 7 is powered by the Unisoc SC9863A, a chipset that was previously used in the likes of the Tecno Pop 5 LTE from 2021. It’s not a powerful chip, but its only job is to run Android 12 Go Edition with HiOS 12 on top.

As usual RAM is the limiting factor, this model only has 2 GB. The Pop 7 Pro has 3GB of storage in addition to the Hlio A22, so it runs Android 12. According to the FCC, the phone will have 64GB of onboard storage and will support 10W basic charging. Note that the chipset has an LTE modem, so there’s no 5G connectivity here (to be fair, the Pro is 4G only, too).

We mentioned that the Tecno Pop 7 appeared on Geekbench and it did — easily found by its model number, BF6. The result isn’t much to look at, but here it is. The benchmark confirms the basics: an octa-core processor (four Cortex-A55 cores at 1.6GHz and four at 1.2GHz), a PowerVR GE8322 GPU, 2GB of RAM, and Android 12.

There’s no telling when Tecno will make the Pop 7 official, but given the launch of the 7 Pro, we don’t expect much fanfare.
