Fans of clamshell-style foldable devices finally have the object of wanting to rival Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 4. Flip phone – the price is very competitive.
We knew Oppo’s first attempt at a clamshell phone would eventually make its way to Europe — the company was sure of that when it revealed its book-style foldable Find N2 late last year — but official details were few and far between. We now know that it’s the first phone with dual SIM 5G support, and it has the largest battery capacity of any flip phone to date.
Oppo’s Flexion-style hinge allows the inner 6.8-inch, 2520 x 1080 AMOLED panel to fold without leaving a gap between the two halves, as you’ll see on the Galaxy Z Flip 4. It also makes screen crease less noticeable than on a foldable competitor, and it can stay Open between 45 and 110 degrees for any hands-free movement. Testing company TUV Rheinland believes it will live 400,000 times, too.
The external 3.26-inch bezel-less, 720 x 382 OLED screen is large and high-resolution enough to show full-length notifications. It’s surrounded by dual camera lenses: a 50MP main end with phase detection autofocus and an 8MP ultrawide. Either one can take selfies using the external display as a viewfinder, and there’s also a 32MP camera inside for video calls.
Power comes from a MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ CPU, paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. The 4,300mAh battery is slightly larger than its closest competitor, and supports fast wired charging at 44W, but it does without any kind of wireless charging.
It runs Android 13 out of the box, with a slightly modified version of Oppo ColorOS on top. It adds a handful of custom widgets intended for the external screen, letting you check calendar appointments, set timers, make audio recordings and check the weather without unlocking the phone, and brings a split view to the camera app so you can get more creative with your snaps.
The Oppo Find N2 Flip will go on sale in the UK from March 2nd, in a choice of Astral Black and Moonlit Purple. You’ll be able to snap one up for £850 – which is pretty tempting, given the Galaxy Z Flip 4 will set you back £899.
