Microsoft made waves when it first announced its return to smartphones, in the form of a foldable dual-screen display under its Surface line. The Surface Duo is promised to be a productivity champ, with all of Microsoft’s quirks to impress potential buyers. Instead, we got a device that, with its great looks, didn’t have the class software to put it alongside the other best devices.
Fast forward to 2021, and the Microsoft Surface Duo 2 delivers an even more powerful package, including an improved Microsoft Pen experience. While the pen is sold separately, once equipped, the nifty accessory provides enhanced accuracy and greater control over your handwriting needs. It can even be propped up on the front side of the Surface Duo 2 by magnets, saving you the cost of the accompanying case.
Looking at the phone itself, the Surface Duo 2 has a spec sheet that ranks well with other flagship phones for 2021, which is already way better than the original. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor, 8GB of RAM, and a 4449mAh battery. There’s now a camera module on the back of the device and a new hinge that Microsoft calls the “Quick Look Bar.” When the dual screens are folded together, the Glance Bar acts as an always-on display for the time, notifications, and other alerts.
