Razer Edge teardown reveals an active cooling fan

Super Android 22, 4 hours agoSo you complain about the 6GB of RAM but you complain about the storage option… MoreWhy are you talking about people saying 6GB is fine, which btw (lots of companies add virtual RAM from high speed storage and Android uses about the standard 2GB) but then bring up iPhone storage options and piss people off saying They think that was fine, which was back then… 12 years ago. (BTW 2011 phones varied from my Xperia play which has 400MB of storage to HTC inspire 4g with 4GB of storage, to 8GB iPhone and 16GB galaxy s2). Strange point you are trying to make.

Note: This was a response to annom but GSMarenas decided to post the comment twice and once for myself.

Anonymous, 7 hours agoStill fine. Blame it on companies that no longer care about properly optimizing any code…moreRight but android is not using ram like windows device or apple device so what is the problem? If you still have ram left to use, no problem, this is what android does until it has no ram left, then it will prioritize removing the oldest/longest unused processes and apps dumped into ram and freeing them up for new processes and apps to run.

Also check how much guts it uses with memory usage (RAM usage) in development options it says average total of 389MB over hours of use and max RAM usage is 753MB (I have 51 tabs on Brave browser too) So where do you get that “use more than 1GB of RAM”?

6 GB of RAM? 🤣
Realistically, it’s probably fine if the OS is lightweight and there’s less bloatware on the system and you don’t kill background apps while the device is off, making the extra RAM useless anyway.

Kangal, January 30, 2023Just a heads up, the device was advertised as 8GB before the sale. – Razer admits they’re crazy…moreThere is no reason why a Switch emulator would need 6GB of RAM or even two. Blame the emulator developers. But in reality they do nothing good

Anonymous, January 31, 2023You “6GB is enough” here, were the same people who advocated being…moreStill fine. Blame it on companies that no longer care about properly optimizing any code at all. Brave as well as any other browser takes tasks on my phone with cache cleared, when there is absolutely no reason a browser needs to take more than 200MB

Anonymous, January 31, 2023There are places where a $399 (64GB) deck goes for $500 or more. Good thing those places…moreAlready using aya neo, gpd, etc. with rdna2 beating performance for $500? What are the models? Where do I buy?

After the debacle of the Phone 2 software update and the lack of disposable parts (battery) on the market (even from Razer). I feel like I’m done with this company

Peter-B, January 30, 2023Qualcomm is mom to details and Edge being the first device to use this chip, we have to find… MoreJust a heads up, the device was advertised as 8GB before the sale.
– Razer admits they made a mistake, and they say you can return it for a refund, but you have to pay a $15 restocking fee. These practices are illegal in the European Union and many first world countries.
– On top of that, they also say sadly, they’re willing to give you a $25 voucher to spend on the Razer website if you keep the device. There’s really nothing you can buy for that amount.
– The last point is that many reviewers noted that 6GB of RAM is not enough to run Skyline Emulator. This means no NSwitch emulation, for many people this is a pointless product.

There are other options in this market, such as the $150 Retroid Pocket 3+ (dedicated and pocket) and the $400 Valve SteamDeck (upper tier, portable). You can also buy a used phone and controller, as a custom solution or use what you have at home (Xbox Pad, Current Phone, etc.). If you want something more pocketable, there’s still the Razer JungleCat, bundled with the Samsung S10+ (QSD 855), or with the OnePlus 9 Pro that fits in the same case as the Samsung Note9.

If you want a portable gaming device, go for a Nintendo Switch or Steam

Early adopters say the Razer Edge measures the same as the SD888.

So either the Razer Edge doesn’t have the G3X, or Qualcomm is wrong about the G3X being 30% faster than the SD888.

Anonymous, January 30, 20236GB RAM but do you have fans??? Who is the target market??The target market is anyone who does not own a mid-range or higher smartphone. This is a useless product…

the

There are non-gaming smartphones out there that are so much more powerful than this bewildering piece of expensive shit… I wouldn’t pay more than $150 for it and give it to my kids to mess with.

It has been false advertising for over 6 months. It was a scam. Many people want their money back.
