Written by Sneha Saha: 2022 has not been an exciting year for the smartphone industry. There have been very few technical innovations in smartphones this year. My favorite piece of tech this year was the Nothing Phone (1). I reviewed Nothing Phone (1) and absolutely loved the unique avatar design. Besides that, I also liked the Pixel 7’s design and Dynamic Island design on the iPhone 14 Pro phones. Apart from some of these few phones, the phones launched in 2022 were completely boring without any innovations whatsoever. However, next year is expected to be a little different.
Lots of exciting smartphones are set to be released in 2023. From the iPhone 15 to the OnePlus 11, new Pixel phones and a lot more smartphones are expected to be official next year. In fact, most of the expected smartphones, including the iPhone 15 – unlike the iPhone 14 – are expected to be feature-rich and bring a lot of innovations. In fact, some rumors and leaks indicate that all four models in the iPhone 15 series will offer Dynamic Island, a feature that is only limited to iPhone 14 Pro models for now.
While 2023 is expected to be an even more exciting year of launch, here are some of the smartphones we are eagerly awaiting.
OnePlus 11
The OnePlus 11 is set to go official in China next week. In India, the smartphone will arrive in February. The company officially announced the unveiling of the OnePlus 11 on February 7. It is possible that the OnePlus 11 is the company’s return device and we say that because 2022 was not good for the company. There were not many interesting devices from the brand this year, but in 2023, with the launch of OnePlus 11, the company aims to change this thing. Ahead of the official launch, the company revealed some key details of the OnePlus 11 including its design. OnePlus 11 will be the brand’s first smartphone with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and will also bring back the notification slider. The smartphone manufacturer has also partnered with Hassleblad for the OnePlus 11 cameras. In terms of design, the OnePlus 11 will offer a curved back design with a circular camera module, which looks sleek and much better than OnePlus. 10 Pro or even the OnePlus 10T.
iPhone 15
This year’s iPhone 14 model wasn’t very interesting and that left consumers frustrated. Reports indicate that Apple may bring changes not only in terms of specifications but also in design. Next year’s iPhone models tend to feature Dynamic Island, which is currently limited to iPhone 14 Pro models only. Some of the latest leaks have also revealed that Apple may re-evaluate the prices of the iPhone 15 as well as the iPhone 15 Plus, because the Plus model has not received a great response. Also, since the iPhone 14 was not a very big upgrade over the iPhone 13, it is believed that the iPhone 15 will be a much bigger upgrade than ever before.
Samsung Galaxy S23
The Samsung Galaxy S23 series is expected to launch on February 1, 29023, although the company has not officially confirmed the date of the 2023 Unpacked event. Under this series, the South Korean smartphone manufacturer is expected to launch three devices including the Samsung Galaxy S23 and Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus and Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. Ahead of the launch, almost everything about the Samsung Galaxy S23 had been leaked online. The global model of the smartphone is expected to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor while, as usual, India will get an Exynos version. The smartphone is expected to offer better camera and battery performance compared to its predecessor. Leaks indicate that the Samsung Galaxy S23 will include a 50MP triple rear camera system, a 120Hz screen refresh rate, up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is expected to offer a 200MP primary camera on the rear panel. The company has not confirmed any of these details yet.
Pixel 8
Pixel 7 series got everyone excited in India because Google launched its flagship Pixel phone in India after many years. Although it’s only been a few months since Google launched the Pixel 7 series of phones, leaks about the Pixel 8 are already circulating on the internet. According to one of the latest leaks, the Pixel 8 camera will adopt a new HDR technology, which will enable the next Pixel phone to take much better photos. The Pixel 7 is indeed a great smartphone with a great pair of cameras. The features of the phone include a 50MP dual rear camera system, Tensor G2 processor from Google, and much more. The next-generation Pixel should be powered by the Tensor G3 processor, if Google follows the tradition.
