Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2023 is fast approaching, and that means there’s an explosion of smartphone, tablet, and laptop announcements.
The question is, with so many companies attending and so many rumors flying around the web, what should you actually expect from this year’s MWC? Will we see a flagship launch from the likes of Xiaomi, Oppo, and Motorola? We break down all of the expected ads here.
When is Mobile World Congress 2023?
Mobile World Congress 2023 is scheduled to take place between February 27 and March 2, 2023 in Barcelona’s Fira Gran Via, her home since 2013.
However, as with most previous MWCs, we expect most of the big announcements to happen before the show even begins. This year, we expect the majority of the big announcements the weekend before the grand opening of the conference, between February 25-26, 2023.
What to expect from Mobile World Congress 2023
MWC usually hosts an array of tech announcements from some of the biggest manufacturers in the tech world, from Samsung to Xiaomi.
While most have yet to announce plans for MWC 2023, here’s what we expect to happen at MWC 2023 based on previous announcements, along with leaks and rumors.
Samsung at MWC 2023
Samsung usually releases its flagship smartphones before MWC — that’s been the case in the past few years, anyway — leaving MWC to focus on other products.
Last year saw the launch of the Galaxy Book 2 Pro 360 and Galaxy Book 2 Pro, which suggests we could see another announcement of the laptop at this year’s fair.
Sony at MWC 2023
Sony hasn’t been to the MWC show since 2019, and that doesn’t look like that will change in 2023.
The company said last year that it had shifted its focus toward “digital and online opportunities,” so it’s safe to assume it won’t have a physical presence at this year’s show either.
Huawei at MWC 2023
MWC 2023 will be a big year for Huawei, with a Huawei spokesperson saying that “this will be the biggest year for Huawei” at the event, which will take up the entire Hall 1 at Fira Gran Via Barcelona.
As for what Huawei plans to announce at this year’s exhibition, this is shrouded in mystery. It took the opportunity to launch the MateBook E 2-in-1 alongside the high-end MateBook X Pro laptop and its Kindle competitor, the MatePad Paper e-reader, at MWC 2022, and we could see the same in 2023.
OnePlus at MWC 2023
MWC 2022 hosted the global announcement of the OnePlus 10 Pro, but given that OnePlus has confirmed that the international launch of this year’s OnePlus 11 will take place on February 7, OnePlus’ MWC 2023 plans are secret — but the leaks give us an idea of what to expect.
Instead of the standard home launch, it’s OnePlus rumored to reveal A brand new concept phone dubbed Concept 2 at MWC 2023, after the Concept 1 was announced at CES 2020.
Xiaomi at MWC 2023
If the rumors are to be believed, Xiaomi will make a very exciting announcement at MWC 2023 in the form of the new high-end Xiaomi 13S Ultra, following last year’s Leica-branded flagship. This is a bit of a surprise given that the Xiaomi 12S Ultra was not unveiled at MWC 2022.
The main rumors revolve around the return of the Leica brand and the introduction of a huge 1-inch sensor, although not much is known at the moment.
Rumors also indicate that the Xiaomi Pad 6 and Xiaomi Pad 6 Pro will be unveiled at this year’s exhibition.
Motorola at MWC 2023
While Motorola is staying true to its plans for MWC 2023 for now, whispers across the internet suggest that we may see the flagship Motorola Edge 40 Pro appear globally after it was launched as the Moto X40 in China recently.
Rumors point to a possible unveiling of MWC 2023, while others suggest that it could debut a month later in March 2023 in India.
Honored at MWC 2023
The GSM Association lists Honor as being present at MWC 2023 with a booth – something that was not present at MWC 2022.
He doesn’t go into detail about what to expect, and Honor hasn’t officially announced anything yet, but it does coincide with the launch of the rumored Honor Magic5 series.
We fully expect Honor to host a presentation at some point during the show, though we’ll have to wait and see what it has planned.
Oppo at MWC 2023
Oppo has arguably had one of the most exciting MWC 2022 launches with its flagships, the Oppo Find X5 and Find X5 Pro, but rumors suggest that successors may launch before MWC 2023 – so what will Oppo unveil at the show?
While it is not confirmed at the moment, rumors claim that we will see the global announcement of the Oppo Find N2 Flip, a serious competitor to Samsung’s foldable clamshell in the West.
Realme at MWC 2023
The first smartphone to offer 240W fast charging capabilities is set to be unveiled at MWC 2023, and surprisingly, it will be in the form of the Realme GT Neo 5.
Realme has already confirmed that 240W fast charging will indeed be a feature of the GT Neo 5 but did not say when we should expect to see an international launch.
Rumors are currently pointing to a release around the start of MWC, which indicates that we don’t have long to wait to see the insanely fast-charging smartphone.
