The OnePlus 11 will use the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, as confirmed by the company

OnePlus emphasized the OnePlus 11 while announcing that its next flagship smartphone will be rocking the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 — Qualcomm’s latest and greatest chipset that was unveiled earlier this week at the company’s Snapdragon Summit 2022 in Hawaii. The OnePlus 11 has been in the rumor mill for quite some time, and it was expected to use the next flagship Snapdragon chipset. However, today’s announcement puts an end to speculation.

The name “OnePlus 11” has officially debuted in a teaser image of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 that OnePlus dropped on Chinese social networking site Weibo. The translated text in the image says: “OnePlus 11 is the first batch to be equipped with the second generation of the Snapdragon 8 mobile platform, and the first open mobile ray tracing platform has been launched.”

Basically, the next big thing for OnePlus, as well as every other brand using Qualcomm’s new chipset, is ray tracing, which improves visuals for high-end graphics in games. Ray tracing is available on gaming consoles and PCs, but this is the first time Qualcomm has been able to bring it to smartphones with its new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. And since OEMs are free to tweak the performance of the new chipset, we can see some interesting applications for this feature.

OnePlus has been joined in offering flagship phones for next year by brands such as Xiaomi, Motorola, Oppo, Vivo, iQOO, Realme, Nubia, Honor, Sony and the Asus Republic of Gamers. Sure, OnePlus doesn’t look like it’s in the running to launch its first Snapdragon 8 Gen 2-powered phone, but it’s likely to introduce its flagship phone as early as next year. However, the race is between Xiaomi, Motorola, Oppo and iQOO. No release date yet, though.

Returning to the upcoming flagship phone from OnePlus, the OnePlus 11 is rumored to have a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with QHD+ resolution and up to 120Hz refresh rate. The camera system on the phone may include a 50MP main sensor, a 48MP ultrawide sensor, and a 32MP telephoto sensor. There may be a 32MP selfie camera on the OnePlus 11. You can get up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage on the OnePlus 11, and it may use Android-based OxygenOS 13 software. A 5,000mAh battery may power the phone and may support 100W fast charging.

While the OnePlus teaser doesn’t confirm any of these specifications but the processor, we’ll likely find out more official information about the OnePlus 11 in the coming days.
