Apple announces the winner of the 2022 Apple Podcasts Award
Slate fairy tale series Slow burning Honored for the final season covering Roe v. Wade
Apple today announced the Apple Podcasts Award, which honors Presentation of the Year and its team for outstanding quality, innovation, and impact. The Apple Podcasts Award, inspired by the app’s token, represents Apple’s decades-long commitment to supporting creators as they share their voice with the world and helping listeners discover the best podcasts.
The award-winning Apple Podcasts is the critically acclaimed narrative history series from Slate, Slow burningFor its final season, Roe v. Wade, hosted by Susan Matthews, executive editor at Slate. Published throughout June 2022, the four-episode season explores the events leading up to the historic 1973 Supreme Court decision, providing listeners with an in-depth perspective on a timely global human rights issue.
“Apple Podcasts is where users discover new shows, enjoy their favourites, unlock premium listening experiences, and support the creators who make them possible,” said Oliver Chaucer, vice president of Apple Music and Beats. “Podcasts play an important role in our lives — helping us stay informed, entertained, and inspired — and we’re thrilled to honor the Slate team with this recognition.”
“I wanted to make this series because I was really frustrated with how polarizing and clingy the conversation around abortion was, and it seemed incredibly timely and important,” said host Susan Matthews. “We set out to tell this story in a way that helped expand and challenge what people understood about it. We decided that the way to approach this season was to go back to the early 1970s, when the abortion debate was still very much in the air and your party affiliation was not related to your views on this matter.” The case. I’m so honored that Apple Podcasts saw something special this season. I hope people come to it with an open mind and inquisitiveness, and value listening to it as much as I did.”
