Corning unveils Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for smartphones

New York-based specialty glass developer Corning on Wednesday (November 40) unveiled its new Gorilla Glass Victus 2 series of smartphones.

The screen shield promises to deliver improved drop performance on rough surfaces like concrete and asphalt and also ensures that the screen is scratch resistant as well.

The new Gorilla Glass Victus 2 has been engineered to meet the durability standards for premium phones, over the years, which have gotten about 15 percent heavier and the screen size has also grown by 10 percent compared to devices half a decade ago.

During lab tests, Gorilla Glass Victus 2 survived drops up to 1 meter high onto a refined concrete surface, far better than competing aluminosilicate glass from other manufacturers.

In addition, Gorilla Glass Victus 2 continued to survive drops of up to two meters on a refined asphalt surface and maintained scratch resistance up to four times better than competing aluminosilicates, the company noted.

The new Gorilla Glass Victus 2 is expected to come in new premium phones that are scheduled to be released in 2023.

It is worth noting that Gorilla Glass has been used on 8 billion devices by more than 45 major brands not only smartphones, but also PoS (Point of Sale) machines and other touchscreen gadgets used in factories.
