San Francisco: Twitter CEO Elon Musk said Saturday that he would produce “alternative” smartphones to compete with Apple and Android devices, if the microblogging platform is removed from app stores.
It all started when one user tweeted, “If Apple and Google run Twitter from their app stores, @elonmusk should produce its own smartphone. Half the country’s population would happily give up hacky iPhones and Androids. Man builds rockets for Mars, smartphone Silly little one should be easy, right?”
Musk replied, “I sure hope you don’t get that far, but, yeah, if there’s no other choice, I’ll make a replacement phone.”
Many users have expressed their thoughts on Musk’s post.
While one commented, “I bet it will revolutionize smartphones,” another said, “I somehow feel like that plan is already in the works.”
Meanwhile, Twitter’s CEO said Friday that the microblogging platform will initially restart its “Verified” service on Friday next week, and all verified accounts will be “manually authenticated before verification is activated.”
Musk earlier suspended his $8 Blue subscription service with verification after he encountered chaos on the platform where fake accounts with a blue badge impersonated real accounts after paying $8, saying it would restart them from November 29 — this time more “solid”.
