Jio to deploy 5G equipment from Nokia, Ericsson

New Delhi: European telecoms equipment manufacturers Nokia and Ericsson have signed multi-year supply contracts with Reliance Jio to supply the country’s largest carrier with 5G network equipment for its standalone deployment or 5G SA, they said in two separate statements on Monday.

Finnish supplier Nokia said it will provide 5G wireless access network (RAN) equipment from the AirScale suite including base stations, massive 5G high-capacity MIMO antennas, Remote Radio Heads (RRH) to support various spectrum bands, and self-organizing network software. .

Reliance Jio is planning to deploy a standalone 5G network which will work with its own 4G network. The company added that the network will enable Reliance Jio to provide advanced 5G services such as massive machine-to-machine communications, network segmentation, and ultra-low latency.

“This is a huge win for Nokia in an important market and new customer with one of the largest RAN footprints in the world,” said Becca Lundmark, President and CEO, Nokia.

Swedish supplier Ericsson said its long-term strategic contract with Jio will include deployment of energy-efficient 5G wireless access network (RAN) products and solutions from the company’s portfolio, and E-band microwave mobile transport solutions will be deployed in Jio’s 5G network.
