Nokia 5.3 Android 12 update fixes some modules and other issues

Being a child of the 90s, Nokia was synonymous with the mobile phone. By 1998, Nokia had become the world’s best-selling mobile phone brand.

Nokia 5.3 is a mid-range smartphone manufactured by the Nokia brand by HMD Global. It runs Android One and has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 processor.

There are a bunch of issues arising since the Nokia 5.3 carried the Android 12 update.

Mainly bricking devices after a factory reset. Nokia 5.3 received Android 12 update in September and users were happy with it.

However, Nokia 5.3 users have now reported that their smartphone has bricked after a factory reset. A message is displayed stating that there is no operating system available, only the bootloader is left.

Factory reset smartphone is the trigger for those who are using Android 12. We have added some reports for your reference.

Nokia 5.3 Android 12 With November 2022 Security Update – Going to your Settings and choosing Factory Reset will wipe your Android operating system, leaving only the bootloader. No options will work in the bootloader (it will only reboot to the bootloader).

Today, I did a full system reset from Settings, after receiving the November 2022 security update (Android 12). My Nokia is now bricked and telling me there is no operating system. It told me to turn off my phone (it gave me what looked like a URL, but I didn’t type it in). It just stopped working, and now I’m stuck on the bootloader.

The user expects that with the new update installed, both slots have Android 12 on them and there is no backup from which the phone can boot. Hence the brick.

If you are lucky, factory reset will not brick the device, but it may result in Nokia 5.3 reverting to Android 11 without any way to upgrade to Android 12 (1,2).

Downgrade from Nokia

Although it has not been officially confirmed, it is possible that Nokia pulled the update to fix serious bugs, which explains why there is no option to upgrade again.

We hope Nokia looks into these issues as soon as possible as they have a significant impact on user experience and in some cases render the device unusable.

Until then, we’ll keep an eye on the Nokia 5.3 Android 12 update having issues on some units, and update this space when we come across more information.
