vivo has become the fastest growing smartphone in the Middle East and is the official sponsor of the FIFA World Cup matches in Qatar, said Saeed Kulaib, Public Relations and Social Media Manager at vivo Middle East.
It seems that vivo has achieved many “world firsts” since its inception. What are some of these milestones and how have they contributed to the brand’s ongoing innovation?
Yes correct. What most people don’t know is that vivo achieved notable “world first” awards at a time when the smartphone market was starting to get competitive. We were twice the record holders for launching the thinnest smartphones in the world (at the time of their respective releases); First in 2012, with the X1, then again in 2014, we regained the title with the X5Max (4.75mm).
Elsewhere, in 2014, when we were just starting out globally, Vivo released the Xplay3s, the world’s first smartphone with F1.8 aperture and optimized image stabilization, greatly improving our photography.
Then in 2018, we launched X20Plus UD – the world’s first in-display fingerprint scanning smartphone. It is a wonderful teacher that we are very proud of to this day.
All of the aforementioned milestones have greatly contributed to our growth as an innovative smartphone offering world-class performance, enhanced imaging, and modern design.
One of the cornerstones of our success is our reliance on rigorous research – underlining our commitment to innovation. Thus, 75 percent of vivo’s workforce is in research and development. As such, we have set up research and development centers in major high-tech cities around the world.
What are some of the innovative partnerships that Vivo has established to advance its smartphones?
We know that innovation as a brand means forming fruitful partnerships that accelerate our growth from a technological point of view. We realize that such partnerships are the gateway to a growing client base across global markets.
One such partnership was with ZEISS to develop dramatic improvements in mobile imaging technology. The first co-designed imaging system from vivo ZEISS has appeared on the vivo X60 series models. Partnering with a world leader in optoelectronics has enabled us to take mobile imaging to the next level for our customers.
We’ve also partnered with National Geographic to host a professional mobile photography competition, called VISION + Mobile PhotoAwards, in 2021. Through this collaboration, we wanted users to show their creativity with vivo’s cutting-edge mobile photography features. Creators from more than nine countries with different backgrounds participated in the competition.
In the Middle East, what countries is Vivo currently in?
Our footprint in the Middle East is expanding. We are currently present in different countries including UAE, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan and Lebanon. And we grow.
How does Vivo feel about being the official sponsor and official smartphone of the FIFA World Cup Qatar?
It goes without saying that our partnership with the FIFA World Cup in Qatar is one of our most exciting partnerships to date. Especially since the country is the first in the Middle East and the Arab region to host the FIFA World Cup.
We signed an agreement with FIFA in 2017 to become its official sponsor and smartphone sponsor until 2023. Within this partnership, we have launched several campaigns including the #GiveItAShot campaign, which encourages fans to make special FIFO filters and post memorable moments from FIFA on Facebook. . and Instagram and TikTok using the hashtag, creating a community experience.
We spread human joy by bringing together international football fans to share their most memorable moments with the world through our campaigns. Our partnership with FIFA means more growth opportunities for Vivo in the Middle East and other markets as we gain exposure across the world.
Is Vivo the preferred smartphone in the Middle East? What does its growth in the region look like?
Over the past three years, vivo has been the fastest growing smartphone brand in the Middle East region. Considering that we only entered the area in 2019, we were able to quickly win many customers with our innovative smartphones.
The growth rate in 2020-2021 (in sales) reached 239 percent in the UAE, 272 percent in Saudi Arabia – Vivo smartphones are in the hands of many.
These are big numbers for us, but we know our performance is poised for record growth with our Y, V and X series smartphones.
Through our belief in and investment in meaningful innovation, we created our X, V and Y Series, which set the standard for world-class, mobile-capable photography and design that suits everyone with different needs. The X Series redefines professional photography, the V Series pioneers photography, and the Y Series delivers an enjoyable entertainment experience for our customers.
What can we expect from the recently launched vivo V25 series?
Recently, we launched the V25 series, which consists of two smartphones – V25 and V25 Pro. As this is our latest series, the V25 smartphones have been developed with our most advanced innovations in technology, reflected in groundbreaking camera features, new and improved high performance, and an innovative color-changing design.
Some of the camera features that users will love in this series include Super Night Video, Vlog Movie, Hybrid Image Stabilization, and much more. The Multi-Style Portrait feature on smartphones allows users to unleash their creativity with the Motion Blur effect, a new style that innovatively separates subjects from the background for a better portrait creation experience. The series’ performance is excellent, bringing greater AI imagination to effortlessly produce stunning 4K videos and smooth gaming experiences. In addition, the series prioritizes user experience on another level with its industry-leading Bionic cooling system, and can run from 0 to 71 percent battery charge in 30 minutes.
Currently, the V25 and V25 Pro smartphones are available in all GCC countries at a reasonable price.

Is Vivo planning to include 6G technology in its smartphones in the near future?
We are well aware that 6G will provide superior communications, converged information and computing services. It will also provide better basic capabilities and provide another level of connection between us as human beings. In fact, we’ve done our bit to research 6G – the vivo Communications Research Institute released its third 6G white paper earlier this year on how 6G will shape people’s lives after 2030.
However, our 6G research and development is still in its infancy, and we are constantly improving 6G scenarios through in-depth research and experimental verification of potential 6G technologies.
