POCO India appoints Himanshu Tandon as the new President of India

New Delhi: POCO has appointed the separate Xiaomi brand Himanshu Tandon as the new head of India operations. He succeeds Anuj Sharma, who is returning to Xiaomi India as Chief Marketing Officer as part of a restructuring that also saw the appointment of Alvin Tse, former president of Xiaomi Indonesia and a member of Xiaomi’s founding team, as the company’s head of operations in India.

Tandon was part of the founding team of POCO and played a key role in the growth of the brand in India. Prior to that, he was Head of Online and Retail Sales at POCO India. Prior to joining POCO, he was Senior Manager – Regional Business and Corporate Strategy Director at Videocon Mobiles.

POCO started as a sub-brand of Xiaomi, selling devices online and targeting younger buyers. It disintegrated into an independent company in January 2020. The company managed to capture 2% of the smartphone market share in the first month of operation in 2020, according to a Counterpoint Research report published in April 2022. Among the top five brands in R15,000 – 20,000 price brackets as of Q1 22, according to the report.

Tandon holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Management from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Bangalore, with majors in strategy, sales, marketing and general management, according to his LinkedIn profile.

POCO India claims that Tandon holds the Guinness Book of Records for opening a record number of stores in one day. He opened 505 stores for Xiaomi in one day when he was the project manager for the company.

“In the following days, Himanshu looks forward to connecting with all of you and taking POCO to greater heights,” POCO India said in a statement.

POCO also announced that it is expanding its aftermarket presence to more than 2,000 service centers across the country.
