What do you call following up on last year’s mid-range flagship laptop? We still haven’t fully understood it, but Huawei knows how to make it. It’s 2022 MateBook 14s is an updated version of last year’s MateBook 14s – the laptop a step down from the flagship MateBook 14. While all of this is pretty baffling, this year’s 14s are anything but.
Housed in the same sleek aluminum chassis, Huawei’s MateBook 14s offers a portable yet powerful device. We look inside for bumps in the specs, with the new Intel CPU and the latest version of Windows.
The 12th Gen Intel Core i7 CPU delivers a wide range of everyday tasks and more intense workloads. And with Windows 11, you’ll get the latest and greatest in software, too. For graphics, Huawei has repurposed the same Intel Iris Xe GPU, but it’s impressive. Powering it all, you’ll find 16GB of RAM and a 60Wh battery.
On the front, you will find the recognizable Huawei 3:2 display. It’s crystal clear at 2.5K resolution, and features a 90% screen-to-body ratio. Though, the additional vertical space may take some time to get used to. With high color accuracy, 90Hz refresh rate, and 400nits brightness, all your content will shine through this 14.2inch screen. Additionally, you can opt for a touch screen display for additional productivity.
As you’d expect from a 2022 laptop, Huawei dumped all the trimmings on the 2022 MateBook 14S. There’s a fingerprint sensor, backlit keyboard, 720p webcam (no longer pointing at your nose), Windows Hello face unlock, and four speakers with stereo sound. On the new device, the brand also includes its own Super Device ecosystem to easily connect to other Huawei equipment, and Smart Conference with FollowCam – a competitor to Apple’s Center Stage.
Huawei’s mid-range MacBook-a-like now comes with the latest features you’d expect. Last year’s 14 earned four stars out of five in our review, so expect a similar performance this time around. The 2022 MateBook 14s retails for £1,300 and is available to order directly from Huawei now. It will make its way to other retailers over the coming weeks.
