Samsung pushes new software updates for its Galaxy smartphones left, right, and center. Some are getting the Android 13 update, while others are opting for the latest November security patch. The Galaxy A73 5G gets into the mix today. Unfortunately, the premium mid-ranger is only receiving the October security update.
Galaxy A73 5G is too late for the SMR (Security Maintenance Release) party in October. Samsung has been rolling out this update since early last month and released an SMR for this month. However, the phone is not a top priority for the company when it comes to software updates. The Galaxy A73 5G was launched alongside the Galaxy A53 5G earlier this year, and the Galaxy A73 5G is set to get only quarterly security updates. Despite being a less expensive model, the former gets these updates every month, and mostly on time.
However, if you’re using the Galaxy A73 5G, the October SMR is on your way. As of this writing, the update was live in a few countries in Latin America. The new firmware version for the phone in the region is A736BXXS2AVJ3 (via). Since the device doesn’t receive security updates every month, we can’t know if the October SMR will be available for it globally. But you should get a new update everywhere soon. This is the Android 13 update, which has already been rolled out to the Galaxy A53 5G.
Each of these premium mid-range smartphones from Samsung is eligible for four generations of Android OS updates. It debuted with Android 12, this is the first of those. They will get updates up to Android 16, which will arrive in late 2025 or early 2026. The Galaxy A53 5G and Galaxy A73 5G will also get security updates for five years, which is until sometime in 2027. Kudos to Samsung for offering such Extended software support to non-key models as well. It would be great if the Android OEMs could follow the Korean giant.
Galaxy A73 5G gets October update with around 50 vulnerabilities fixes
The October SMR for Samsung Android smartphones and tablets patches around 50 vulnerabilities. This includes Android OS errors as well as some Galaxy-specific issues. A few of these defects have been classified as critical issues. The Galaxy A73 5G is the latest Galaxy device to get vulnerabilities patches. Users in Latin America can look forward to receiving this update in the coming days if they haven’t already. Stay connected as Samsung prepares to push Android 13 to the Galaxy A73 5G.
