After updating the AirPods Pro 2 earlier this week, Apple is now rolling out new firmware versions for the rest of its AirPods lineup as well. This includes the original AirPods 2, AirPods 3, AirPods Max, and the original AirPods Pro.
New Firmware Updates for AirPods
The new firmware version for new AirPods is version 5B58. The update is available for all AirPods models listed above starting today. That’s up from the previous firmware version 4E71, the same version that was released for AirPods Pro 2 earlier this week.
Apple release notes: “Bug fixes and other improvements.” Useful as usual!
As you probably know by now, Apple also doesn’t make it easy to manually update AirPods to new firmware versions. Instead, the company said that new firmware versions will be installed when you connect AirPods via Bluetooth to your iPhone.
To check your AirPods software version:
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Go to the “Bluetooth” menu.
- Find AirPods in the list of devices.
- Click on “I” next to them.
- Look at the Firmware Version number.
