Huawei’s Kirin line of processors has been a major contender for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon mobile SoC series, particularly at the higher end. However, they have been banned from existence by the United States government. There were rumors of their return in 2023; However, the OEM dismissed it as fake news.

Huawei’s mobile business has been dealt a fatal blow by the blacklisting of the OEM by the US administration, especially since it was unable to supply its smartphones with the Kirin line of SoCs. Silicon may have been developed in-house, but it still relies on technology from US and international companies that have complied with sanctions that prevent them from working with Huawei.

These circumstances have not prevented alleged leaks indicating that the new Kirin processors, slated for release in 2023, will be scrapped. They may have increased Huawei’s latest supply, which could be due to weak variants such as the 710A at this point.

However, the Weibo All-Weather Technology News account now claims that Huawei has answered its questions about these rumors, calling it “fake newsHe denied producing any new Kirin chipsets.

That may be the case, as the P50 and Mate 50 series set a precedent for the move to Qualcomm Snapdragon 8-series chipsets, and internal alternatives to a new CATL battery may be mixed at this point anyway.
